Ethan Leinlwand is a barrelhouse blues pianist and music preservationist who presents his personal interpretations of many of the great but forgotten old-time Masters. Originally from Middletown, Conn., Ethan lived in New York City and New Orleans before moving to St. Louis in 2014, where he quickly connected with that city's thriving traditional music community. He specializes in St. Louis pre-war piano blues, Texas and Deep South barrelhouse, early Chicago boogie-woogie, and good-time hokum stride. Influences include Little Brother Montgomery, Jimmy Yancey, Aaron "Pinetop" Sparks, Black Bob, and Peetie Wheatstraw.
In addition to his solo piano work, Ethan plays piano in several St. Louis-area groups including The Bottlesnakes, Miss Jubilee, and The St. Louis Steady Grinders. Ethan has also taught at the Acoustic Blues Workshop in Port Townsend, Wash. His notable performances include La Roquebrou International Boogie-Woogie Festival in France, United Kingdom Boogie Festival in England, Pianissimo Piano Festival in Germany, Brooklyn Folk Festival, and University of Chicago Folk Festival.
