Born in Canada, Morris Palter has performed in the Acousmania Festival in Bucharest, the Agora Festival (IRCAM), the Musik III Festival in San Diego, the Green Umbrella concert series (LA Philharmonic), as well as at the Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall under famed conductor/composer Pierre Boulez. He has also performed at the La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest Music Festival, the Holland Festival, participated as a soloist at The Banff Centre for the Arts, and has appeared at the Amsterdam Percussion Festival. Mr. Palter has also recently appeared on CBC Radio's Sounds Like Canada show with Shelagh Rogers.As a Ragtime Xylophonist, Morris was an invited guest soloist at the Rocky Mountain Ragtime Festival in Boulder, CO, the Orange County RagFest, the Ragtime Xylophone Institute in Delaware, the Rotterdam Conservatory, and the Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag.

Having also performed with the SONOR Ensemble, and as a soloist with the La Jolla Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Palter co-founded NOISE in 1999 (San Diego New Music), and is a member of the percussion group redfish bluefish. Morris has performed solo recitals and guest lectures at the University of Birmingham, UK, Stanford University, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, the University of San Diego, and the University of Virginia.

In the summer of 2001, Mr. Palter was the Composer and percussionist with The Old Globe Theatre’s production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream in San Diego. More recently, Morris composed music for the McCaleb Dance Company for the piece entitled Post and Lintel (Choreography by Eric Geiger). Morris has also made recordings for various Broadway and off-Broadway plays.
Morris actively commissions both solo and chamber works and has collaborated with artists such as Steven Schick, Bob Becker, Pierre Boulez, Roger Reynolds, David Lang, Matthew Burtner, Stewart Saunders Smith, Thomas DeLio, Michael Roth, Philip Manoury, Chris Tonkin, Derek Keller, Scott Wilson, Lisa Cella, Colin McAllister, Elizabeth Swallow (McCaleb Dance), Christopher Adler, Rick Burkhardt, Eric Ullman, and Lower Left Dance Company.

Mr. Palter has been published in Percussive Notes Magazine and currently has endorsement contracts with Black Swamp Percussion products, Ayotte Drums, and Paiste Inc. He Has received degrees from the University of Toronto, the Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag, and the University of California, San Diego where he is currently an Associate in Music.
