In 1982 pianist/vocalist
Tom Bopp
set off to become a piano technician (despite a degree in music theory
and composition from UCLA and a lifetime of piano study). Responding to
an invitation to play at JoAnne's Chili Bordello, he discovered his true
career calling, entertainment amidst 17 varieties of chili served
in an atmosphere of sin. Next year, Tom received a one-week invitation
to play at the historic Wawona Hotel in Yosemite National Park. He has
been there ever since, playing any request from Celtic folk to neurotic
jazz, though Ragtime pops up spontaneously and is the music Tom likes to
play best (must have been all that chili). Three felines allow Tom and
his wife Diane to reside with them in Oakhurst. In spare moments,
Tom composes (on the computer), archives vintage music and recordings,
presents special concerts and historical events, plays at the Yosemite's
Ahwahnee Hotel from time to time, and returns to his So. California haunts
to perform twice a year for his many fans at the Old Town Music Hall in
El Segundo. Check out Yosemite
Music and Art at http://www.yosemitemusic.com for further information
on Tom's recordings, performance schedule, and additional history.
