Alex Hassan is a Northern Virginia pianist immersed in the musical styles and arrangements of the 1920s and 30s. He recreates the melodies of the Golden Age of popular music using resources of syncopated/novelty piano solo 78s, a comprehensive sheet music collection, classical training and an intense love of the music. Alex has performed worldwide at the Smithsonian, Rocky Mountain Ragtime Festival, Stanford University, a party for the Gershwin family in Manhattan, Toronto's McMichael Art Gallery, London, Kennedy Center, El Segundo Ragfest and ragtime societies in St. Louis, Indianapolis and Sacramento. He is a regular pianist with Washington's Interact Theatre Co., spotlighting the music of Ivor Novello and comedy/music of Joyce Grenfell--shows nominated for "Helen Hayes" awards. In August 2007 Alex opened the 'Piano Rarities' concert in Husum, Germany with an all-novelty piano performance. |
