Nancy Piver and Stanley L. Stern will be playing for the dance instruction at the Festival. They will also play for the Sing-A-Long of ragtime-era songs. Stanley and Nancy met at the 1998 Festival in Sacramento. Upon discovering they both loved ragtime music and duets, they started playing four-hand arrangements; they have been performing together ever since for dances, community groups, and house concerts. Nancy was raised in Mill Valley, California, and graduated from Stanford University. She has accompanied singers and instrumentalists since she was seven years old, including West Coast productions of major musicals. She produced a popular educational video called "A Child's Garden of Verses and Songs." Nancy is also the leader of the SLO Strummers, a large group of Ukulele players who perform music largely form the Ragtime and Jazz eras. Stanley is a graduate of Brooklyn College and USC. He was the music director for a professional touring children's theater group. He was also a founding member of UCLA's Piano for Two group, and West LA's Piano Quartet for eight-hand piano music. Stanley now runs several musical events in the Central Coast such as the annual Boatzart Music on the Water Festival, and the Ponomen Musical Lecture Series featuring music influenced by Jewish composers, performers or conductors. |
