The
Smalltimers
The Smalltimers group, founded in 1993, has performed at all kinds of functions, ranging from weddings (their first gig!), conferences and parties to major festivals, including the International Scott Joplin Festival (2002, Sedalia, Missouri), the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee (1994 through 2002), and the West Coast Ragtime Festival (1995 – 2002, Sacramento, California). The Smalltimers bring a big sound and bright style to its ever-expanding repertory of “classic” ragtime music, early (very early!) blues and jazz, and music of modern day ragtime composers. Their latest recording, June 2002, “Great Ragtime ” demonstrates their love of the music. The Smalltimers are all from the San Francisco peninsula, who masquerade in the daytime as worker bees. In addition to current membership in the Pacific Coast Ragtime Orchestra, all of the members participate in a variety of musical activities. Among numerous other activities, Sue Horn, Lloyd Connors, Jim Rogers and Jack Gerken often perform in pit orchestras for Bay Area musical productions; and Michael Hart is a member of the Coastside Community Orchestra, and along with Jack Gerken perform in traditional jazz groups.
